Strikes and industrial action PAM’s Executive Committee has decided on strikes and other industrial action in the commerce sector. Industrial action has also been declared in ski centres. Commercial sector Ski centres Join PAM Recommend PAM membership Commerce sector strike The Service Union PAM has declared a strike and other industrial action in the commerce sector because no agreement has been reached with Finnish Commerce Federation on wage increases or other key issues for PAM, such as improving the status of part-time workers and ensuring protection against dismissal. The strikes apply to all employees and supervisors working in the companies affected by the strike. The strike covers, for example, all K-Market, K-Supermarket, and K-Citymarket stores. Within the S Group, the strike includes all Alepa, Sale, S-Market, Prisma, and Sokos stores as well as some ABC outlets. Additionally, all Lidl, Halpa-Halli, and Tokmanni stores across Finland are affected. Check the lists above to see if your workplace is covered by the strike. Other industrial action In addition to the strikes, PAM has declared a ban on shift changes and temporary transfers for the entire commerce sector, covering all employees and supervisors. Shift change ban – from 3 February 2025 PAM has declared a shift change ban as an industrial action. During the ban, employees do not agree to any changes to the work schedule at the employer’s request or make any other employer-initiated changes to working hours. Employees strictly follow their assigned work schedule for arriving and leaving work. No flexitime or working time bank balances will be accumulated. Employer asks you to cover for a sick colleague. Only work according to your confirmed work schedule. Employer asks you to switch shifts to another store. Only work according to your confirmed work schedule Do not change shifts at the request of the employer. Temporary transfer ban – from 3 February 2025 PAM has also declared a ban on temporary transfers within the commerce sector. This means that employees cannot be transferred from one workplace or task to another. Employees only work according to their confirmed work schedule. Employers cannot take retaliatory action against employees following union-declared industrial action. If your employer takes retaliatory measures, contact your shop steward or regional office immediately. The employer cannot point to clauses in your employment contract stating that you are required to work also at the company’s other locations. If your contract states that you circulate at several times Employer asks you to work at another location? Refuse and only work according to your confirmed work schedule. I normally regularly work at multiple locations. Can I work at multiple locations? You may work at your usual locations, but do not deviate from the confirmed work schedule. PAM’s strike pay to members You are entitled to strike pay if you joined PAM no later than the first day of the strike. PAM pays its members €100 per strike day. After tax, the compensation is €66.40 per day. Strike compensation is paid to employees who had at least a four-hour shift scheduled during the strike and lost income because of it. Applications for strike compensation will open after the strike ends. Join PAM What should I do when the strike starts? If you work at a company affected by the strike, do not go to work. You do not need to register separately for the strike. If you are at work when the strike starts, leave when strike starts. Finish up any necessary tasks before the strike begins and leave when it starts. What should I do when the strike ends? If the strike ends during a shift, do not return to work that same shift. Return to work for your next scheduled shift according to your work schedule or any other agreed arrangement. To speed up negotiations, PAM has declared a ban on overtime and shift changes that begins on Monday, 3 February 2025 at 00:01. The bans will end based on separate declaration. Overtime ban – from 3 February 2025 During an overtime ban, workers refuse overtime work requested by the employer. Overtime is always voluntary, and you have a right to say no. Say no to working overtime – you have a right to do so Shift change ban – from 3 February 2025 What is ban on shift changes? A shift change means any adjustment to a published work schedule, whether swapping shifts with another worker or changing the time of a shift (such as the start time). During a shift change ban, workers do not agree to any changes to the work schedule requested by the employer. Workers arrive and leave exactly according to the published work schedule. During the ban, no extra time is added to work time banks or similar systems. Do not agree to changes to the work schedule during the ban on shift changes Recommend membership!
