The right to strike also applies to temporary agency workers

A strike is a legal way to influence working conditions, and temporary agency workers have the same right to participate as other employees, reminds PAM’s organisational director Risto Kalliorinne.

During a strike, industrial action applies to all workers. A temporary agency worker can go on strike if they are working at a company included in the strike or if they are called in by the agency to work at a strike location on a strike day.

— A strike is a legal way to defend employees’ rights and working conditions. The right to take industrial action applies to all workers, regardless of whether they are directly employed by the company or working through an agency, emphasises PAM’s organisation director Risto Kalliorinne.

A temporary agency worker has the right to refuse work that permanent staff are not doing during the strike.

— Temporary agency workers should not do any work that is part of the strike. They are not supposed to replace striking workers, says Kalliorinne.

Strike pay for temporary agency workers

Temporary agency workers who are members of PAM can apply for strike pay.

Are you a temporary agency worker and affected by the strike?

You can go on strike as a temporary agency worker:

  • if you work at a company or site included in the strike.
  • if you are called in by the agency to work at a strike location on a strike day.

If you experience pressure or discrimination for participating in the strike, contact PAM or the labour protection authorities.
