Pay increases and better working conditions in the adventure services sector

The Service Union United PAM and the Finnish Hospitality Association MaRa have agreed on a new three-year collective agreement for the adventure services sector. Wages will increase by a total of 7.8 percent during the agreement period.

In addition to wage increases, the agreement includes improvements related to temporary absences, procedures and the right to union support in cases of dismissal based on grounds related to the employee.

—The increases in line with the general level of wage increases help to bridge the gap in purchasing power. It is also important for workers’ income that the entire wage increase is implemented as a general increase for everyone, without any local components, says PAM President Annika Rönni-Sällinen.

Wages will increase as follows:

  • 2.5 percent on 1 September 2025 or the start of the next pay period
  • 2.9 percent on 1 June 2026 or the start of the next pay period
  • 2.4 percent on 1 July 2027 or the start of the next pay period

The supplement for working late hours will increase to €1.38 per hour on 1 September 2025.

Improvements to temporary absences

The new collective agreement brings new rights related to temporary absences, supporting the balance between work and personal life for employees in the sector.

If an employee’s child under the age of 10, or another child under 10 who permanently resides in the same household, falls suddenly ill, the employee may now take 1–3 calendar days of paid leave by self-notification. The employer may request a medical certificate if deemed necessary.

In addition, employees will have the right to unpaid leave to attend appointments related to fertility treatments or adoption counselling.

Protection against dismissal – PAM supports employees

Under Finnish law, a valid and weighty reason is required to dismiss an employee based on grounds related to the employee’s person. The government is currently planning to weaken this protection.

The adventure services sector collective agreement previously had no provision on dismissal protection, but now it includes a clause requiring a hearing before dismissal.

—This essentially reminds employers that PAM members can receive support from a union representative or PAM official shop in the hearing and that employees must have a real opportunity to prepare and present their case, says PAM’s collective bargaining specialist Sirpa Moilanen.

PAM ensures its members receive support in dismissal situations and, if necessary, takes unclear cases to court.

The collective agreement is valid for three years from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2028. The third year may be terminated to end on 31 March 2027.

Employees covered by the collective agreement work in various adventure service companies, for example as safari guides.
