Employees are hoping for a solution through negotiations. Collective agreement negotiations in the property services sector continued today, Saturday. The current agreement expires the day after tomorrow, on Monday 31 March 2025. This week, the negotiations have focused on wage increases and finding a solution to the long-standing issue of public holiday compensation in the sector. – All employees in the property services sector must have the right to paid days off. We are determinedly seeking a solution to this, says Annika Rönni-Sällinen, President of PAM. Naturally, securing fair pay rises is also crucial for reaching a negotiated outcome. The decline in purchasing power affects all workers in the sector. — The goal is to achieve pay increases that improve purchasing power. Even though agreements have been reached in sectors like retail, nothing is automatically extended to other sectors, Rönni-Sällinen reminds. After the collective agreement expires, the obligation to maintain industrial peace is no longer in force. At that point, industrial action becomes possible and entirely legal. In the property services sector, negotiations will continue on the day the current collective agreement ends—Monday, 31 March 2025. PAM’s Executive Committee will convene on Tuesday, 1 April 2025 to address the current state of negotiations across different sectors. Workers hope for a deal, but are also ready to act Messages from across Finland show that employees have been closely following the collective agreement negotiations. While there is still hope that a new agreement will be reached at the negotiating table, workers are also prepared to take action—something employees in the property services sector have demonstrated on numerous occasions during previous rounds of negotiations. According to PAM’s Regional Directors Elisa Penders and Nina Kuitunen, property services workers have followed the negotiations closely. PAM’s regional offices have organised events for workplace shop stewards and employees to discuss the current state of negotiations. Most recently, a meeting was held this Thursday in Tampere. – The mood among shop stewards in the sector was expectant and still hopeful, but also ready. The meeting also highlighted how important the contract wording issues are for employees in the sector, says Elisa Penders, PAM’s Regional Director in Pirkanmaa. Similar events have also been held in places such as Vaasa and Jyväskylä. According to Nina Kuitunen, PAM’s Regional Director for Central Finland and Ostrobothnia, shop stewards, employees, and PAM have all been preparing for different scenarios. However, a negotiated outcome is still the goal. – The atmosphere has been expectant—we’re hoping for a good result from the negotiations. We’ve had new members join in recent weeks, and it’s been great to see how engaged employees are in this together. Now is still a great time to join, Kuitunen adds.
