Commerce sector negotiations continued – fair solutions are actively pursue

The collective agreement negotiations in the commerce sector have progressed to a stage where PAM and the Finnish Commerce Federation have been working in both a large negotiation group and smaller preparatory teams.

– We have had constructive discussions with the Finnish Commerce Federation, which represents the employers, about issues such as the development of the sector’s pay system and working hours. However, much work remains to be done, and there is still much to clarify, says Jyrki Sinkkonen, PAM’s Collective Bargaining Specialist.

Details of working conditions under discussion

So far, the negotiations have focused the provisions in the collective agreement that do not directly concern wages. These provisions significantly affect employees’ daily lives, as they regulate terms related to working hours, sick pay, and the principles of performing work.

Clear goals

In the collective agreement negotiations, PAM and the Finnish Commerce Federation are building a foundation for a new collective agreement. These negotiations and their outcome will impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Balancing and reconciling different objectives is at the heart of collective bargaining.

– We demand fair wage increases, protections against unjust dismissal for employees, and improved conditions for part-time workers. We will continue our efforts in the negotiations to ensure that commerce sector employees receive a collective agreement that meets the demands of these times. The negotiations are proceeding as usual, PAM’s President Annika Rönni-Sällinen says.

On Thursday 16th negotiations for collective agreement for retail supervisors will take place.

The current collective agreements and industrial peace in the commerce sector are in force until 31 January 2025. You can follow the progress of the negotiations on PAM’s website at pam.fi/collective-bargaining and on social media.
