The Executive Committee also made decisions on industrial action, the details of which will be announced later. — PAM’s goals are to maintain the current level of dismissal protections, improve the situation of part-time employees, and secure wage increases that would fill the purchasing power gap, says PAM President Annika Rönni-Sällinen. — The Finnish Commerce Federation has not brought anything to the table regarding for example dismissal protections that would show they take workers’ concerns seriously. The Orpo government is introducing legislative changes to make dismissals easier. In several sectors where collective agreements have been reached, workers have been protected against these deteriorations through collective agreements. — If we cannot secure this in our collective agreements, workers in our low-wage, female-dominated sectors could be fired more easily than, for example, industrial workers. We are trying to prevent that, Rönni-Sällinen explains. Yesterday, PAM conducted a quick survey among its members, asking: “How important do you consider it that dismissal protections are secured in the collective agreement?” Among respondents in the commerce sector, 85% considered it very important. PAM’s Executive Committee has made decisions on industrial action to speed up negotiations. The details will be announced later. Regarding earlier strike notices, mediation of the dispute in the ski centre sector will take place today under the direction of the National Conciliator. The strikes are set to begin on Monday. PAM has also announced a strike in the customer service and telemarketing sector, scheduled to start on Thursday, 6 March 2025.
