The Service Union United PAM will start sympathy strikes to help speed up the Industrial Union’s collective agreement negotiations. The sympathy strike will begin on 27 January 2025 at 00.01 and end on 1 February 2025 at 17.59. The sympathy strike applies to service sector employees at workplaces which the Industrial Union has declared on strike on 27 January to 1 February, and whose work falls under the collective agreement for property services sector and the collective agreements for employees and supervisors in the hotel, restaurant and leisure industry. A list of the Industrial Union’s strike locations can be found on their website. With these solidarity actions, PAM wants to support the Industrial Union’s negotiations so that industry workers can get good working conditions and wage increases that improve their purchasing power. — Service sector workers work together with industry workers every day and are part of the same work community. Through the sympathy strike, workers show strong support for their colleagues in the Industrial Union, says PAM’s organisational director Risto Kalliorinne. A solidarity action, or sympathy strike, is a lawful measure, and PAM has informed employers about the strikes. The Electrical Workers’ Union and the Finnish Construction Union have also announced solidarity actions. — Unions affiliated to the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) support each other. We hope that the sympathy strike by service sector workers will help advance the Industrial Union’s collective agreement negotiations, Kalliorinne states. The industrial action, i.e. strikes, will not target locations important to national security. SAK-affiliated unions act responsibly, and operations or tasks related to health and safety are always excluded from industrial action.
